Beaming with Jo Leversuch
by Ana
As the seasons change, we notice how days start to get shorter and how the temperature drops but what we often don’t think about is how this change can affect our skin and skin health. How do we maintain a good skincare routine in winter?
by Clara
The colder conditions strip the skin of essential moisture and natural oils which leads to dryness, tightness and increased skin sensitivity making our skin barrier more susceptible to damage. This means we want to ensure we are using products that help protect and prevent the skin from dehydration, irritation and a compromised skin barrier. What is a compromised skin barrier?
Our skin barrier can often get damaged by a variety of reasons such as:
Environmental factors — e.g. sun exposure, cold weather, pollution
Improper skincare use — e.g. over-exfoliation, over-use of strong acids/actives/retinoids
Certain lifestyle factors — e.g. stress, lack of sleep, smoking
This is why I’ve curated some of my favourite skincare products from us here at Beam that you can trust to help your skin through these next few months and help maintain that healthy summer glow we all love and are so desperate to keep.

Swiitch Beauty - #inyourdreams Barrier Repair Sleeping Mask
Up first by Swiitch Beauty, we have their Barrier Repair Sleeping Mask. Swiitch skincare never misses. It’s all formulated in Korea and there’s a reason why Korean skincare is all the hype right now. It’s because they prioritise gentle, hydrating products and they invest into advanced and innovative formulations whilst still managing to keep the products at an affordable price.
This product is formulated to restore and protect the skins barrier by deeply nourishing and hydrating the skin as well as using antioxidants. Although this product is labelled as a sleeping mask, don’t be fooled, you could easily use this as a daily moisturiser too, especially if your skin is more dry and dehydrated. The formula is fragrance free with gentle ingredients, making it perfect for sensitive skin. Some of the beaming ingredients in this product are —

Ere Perez - Wild Tomato Riche Crème
Ere Perez is a clean beauty brand based in Australia. Not only do they prioritise clean and safe ingredients and the impact those ingredients have on people and the planet, but they also prioritise sustainable packaging for their products and an ethical responsibility within their brand. The Wild Tomato Riche Crème is another moisturising life saver. It’s a ‘lusciously rejuvenating day/night cream’ which is delicate enough for you to wear as a day cream but also rich enough for you to use as a night cream depending on your skin type and needs. It’s loaded with antioxidants to help support the skin barrier and a youthful complexion. The ‘tomato’ in the products name comes from tomato seed oil which is known as one of the world’s richest sources of lycopene. What is lycopene? Lycopene is an antioxidant that helps soothe dryness and encourages a smooth skin texture. Some of the beaming ingredients in this product are —

Swiitch Beauty - #superherosalve Intensively Hydrating Lip Sleeping Mask
Yes, making sure our skin stays hydrated and protected, but what about our lips? This is just as important. We’ve all experienced the unpleasant feeling of dry, cracked, sore lips in those colder months. It feels like you could apply all the Vaseline in the world, and it doesn’t seem to go away. That’s why I’d recommend a product like the Swiitch #superherosalve. It’s an ultra-concentrated, restorative ‘rescue for the lips’. Unlike a basic lip balm like Vaseline or Carmex, this product deeply moisturises rather than just moisturising the surface layer of the lips. Getting down to those deeper layers of the lips is vital for ensuring you don’t have to experience dry, chapped lips. Yes, you should certainly use this at night like the name of the product suggests but I also keep this with me at all times to apply during the day too. Some of the beaming ingredients include —

Muihood – Good Chi Cleansing Balm
We still need to prioritise properly cleansing the skin each day, but we also want to ensure we are not stripping the skin whilst we do this, especially in the months where our skin is more susceptible to being dry. That’s why the Good Chi Cleansing Balm by Muihood is the perfect product. It deeply cleanses the skin whilst replenishing hydration. It’s an oil to milk balm formula that dissolves makeup, SPF and build up on the skin. Muihood brings Chinese medicine and botanicals into their skincare formulations product. Swiitch Beauty - #silkscreen SPF50 Sun Shield
A common misconception about winter skincare is the need for less sun protection but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Just because we don’t see as much sun, doesn’t mean that the UVA and UVB rays aren’t still present, and they can affect our skin just as much as they would in the summer. In fact, the ozone layer is actually at its thinnest in these colder months making it easier for these UV rays to penetrate into our skin. That’s why I’d recommend yet another Swiitch product — because their formulas are just too good. Finding a good sun cream (especially one with a high SPF) is tough. It’s extremely rare to find one that feels incredibly lightweight, smooth and non-greasy whilst also appearing invisible on the skin with no white cast and wears amazing under makeup, and that’s this product. Again, formulated in Korea it also works overtime to protect and strengthen your skin barrier whilst stimulating cell repair. Some of the beaming ingredients are —
